History of Scientific Clubs at AGH University of Krakow
Looking at the development of AGH UST Student Scientific Clubs, it is safe to say that they have a history as long as the existence of their alma mater – the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow.
21 November 1919 – establishment of the Students' Club of the Mining Academy (KSAG) – KSAG deals with the scientific development of the Academy's students.
1922 – transformation of the Mining Academy Listeners Club into the Mining Academy Students' Association (SSAG).
11 November 1927 – establishment of the Ironworkers' Scientific Club (soon renamed the Metallurgists' Scientific Club) as an autonomous section of the Mining Academy Students' Association. It was the first student research club at the Academy.
January 1929 – establishment of the Prof. Henryk Czeczott Miners' Scientific Club.
1929-1939 – dynamic development of student scientific activity at the Academy (by 1939 more than 20 student research clubs were established at the Academy).
1939-1945 – clandestine activity of the Academy and its student research clubs.
1948 – liquidation of the Mining Academy Students' Association – the Academy's student scientific circles are taken under the wings of the Association of Polish Youth and the Association of AGH UST Alumni.
1953 – reorganization of scientific clubs, establishment of the Students' Scientific Society (STN). STN AGH UST begins publishing two series of STN Bulletins – series A (mining) and B (metallurgy).
19 June 1954 – proceedings of the First Scientific Conference of the AGH UST Miners' Student Scientific Associations.
1959 – the AGH UST Miners' Student Scientific Conferences are moved to December – on the occasion of St. Barbara's Day (since then a statutory holiday of AGH).
1961 – proceedings of the First Conference of the Student Scientific Session of the Metallurgical Division in four sections: Metallurgy, Plastic Processing, Metallurgists, Mechanics, Electricians and Physicists.
1976 – establishment of the function of AGH UST Rector's Plenipotentiaries for Scientific Clubs and the Association of AGH UST Student Clubs (SKN AGH). The first Plenipotentiaries are Prof. Zbigniew Strzelecki (Mining Division) and Prof. Stanisława Jasieńska (Metallurgical Division).
5-7 May 1977 – 1st International Student’s Session of Metallurgists with the participation of 22 scientific clubs of the Metallurgical Division.
1992 – full authority over the scientific circles is transferred from the care of the Association of Polish Youth and the Association of AGH UST Alumni to the AGH UST Rector and, on his behalf, the Plenipotentiaries for Scientific Clubs.
1992-2021 – successive AGH UST Rector's Plenipotentiaries for Mining Division Scientific Circles: Prof. Danuta Krzysztoń (1990-2000), Prof. Barbara Jabłońska-Firek (2000-2008), Mieczysław Ślósarz, PhD (2008-2016), Prof. Paweł Bogacz (2016-rec).
1990-2021 – successive AGH UST Rector's Plenipotentiaries for Scientific Circles of the Metallurgical Division: Jadwiga Orewczyk, PhD (1990-2002), Leszek Kurcz, PhD (2002-2020), Joanna Augustyn-Nadzieja, PhD (2020-rec).
1 May 2021 - His Magnificence the Rector of AGH, Prof. Jerzy Lis, has appointed Paweł Janowski, PhD, Eng., as the third Rector's Plenipotentiary for Scientific Clubs related to Exact Sciences.
1 October 2021 – reorganization of the structure of student research clubs into three areas: GREEN (so far the Mining Division), RED (so far the Metallurgical Division) and BLACK (the new one related to Exact Sciences).
